A Life-Changing Journey

Psalm 61:1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 “When my heart is overwhelmed, lead me to the rock.” There’s a journey.

David says, “from the ends of the earth.” There is an area of separation from where he is and where he wants to be. This feels like a long journey to get to God or to where He wants me to be.

Christian or not, we are all on a journey.

What does it take to begin a journey?

If I know where I'm going, it’s fairly easy to know what to quickly pack. Maybe an individual wants to start a spiritual journey - or move further in and higher up - but is waiting and procrastinating. It takes action.

James 1:22,23,24,25 I can identify where I am and can intend to start. The Spirit of God may point out that there is an issue, but doesn’t always give the answer. He allows me the space to consider, be honest, and take action. I can cry out to God, but if I’m not willing to make a change it does not count as action. If I am willing to do these hard things, I can start my journey.

Psalms 139:23 David does more than listen. His heart is open. If I ask the Holy Spirit to search me, he will lead. I will be located and instructed. He will give me the truth. It may hurt. It doesn’t say drive me to the rock; it says lead me to the rock. A sheep dog is effective and will drive sheep, but creates more anxiety and injury. A shepherd leads.

What does it take to maintain this journey?

A mountain climber has to stay focused. I must be prepared to make personal sacrifices to maintain a spiritual path.

Job 23:10,11,12 Job questioned God, but His Word was the most important thing to him. He was aware that God knew and saw his path. He was aware he needed help. Satan will see if I am not willing to make personal sacrifices. Job was not bashful about his decision.

It may not be a far separation, but drawing closer to God is always a journey that takes effort. Going to higher ground is spiritual with physical results. It has the power to lift from one place to another in a way that is witnessed by others. It’s obvious when one is drawing closer to God. My journey affects those around me.

Romans 12:2 In this journey God will renew my mindset.

Philippians 3:8,9,10 Paul had to be honest with himself.

What are the benefits of this journey?

These are benefits when I draw close to God: shelter, a strong tower from the enemy, covering protection, peace, and help. God says if you draw nigh to me I will draw to you. You will be my people and I will be your God.

When is the best time to begin this journey?

It’s never going to be easier later. Answer the conviction when the conviction is the only consequence. The call to make a life-changing journey offers a close walk with God. Refusing to do this brings consequences; I am no longer walking in the same place.

Romans 13:11,12 There’s always room to draw closer to God.

If I am convicted to draw closer to God there’s a reason. It is preparation for what is ahead. God will lead me to heights I haven’t imagined.
