Faith the Size of a Mustard Seed

How many times have I heard that if I have faith the size of a mustard seed I can do momentous things? Have I been discouraged when I thought I had a little faith but didn’t get what I hoped for?

This is more than just a little bit of faith. The Scripture says that it’s as a mustard seed, not as small as a mustard seed. The mustard plant is invasive and aggressively seeks for nutrients. A plant produces thousands of seeds quickly. It can grow as big as a tree. It is a seed that flourishes in hard and difficult times.

Let my faith be invasive and out of control into every part of me. Let my roots grow deep and crowd out other things. Let it produce much more faith.

Founded

Faith isn’t founded on my own goals and wishes, law and rules, prophets, tradition, culture, or a person. Know that God has a plan and His thoughts are good. His strength is perfect. His ways are higher.

How do I grow it?

Faith grows by prayer and fasting, in constant communion with God. Do I need to consider fasting from distracting things? If the Spirit says to stop what I am doing and spend time with God, this will grow my faith.

Matthew 17:14,15,16,17,18,19,20,21

1 Thessalonians 5:16,17,18,19,20,21,22 This is a blueprint for how to grow faith. Give God credit for all things.

2 Corinthians 5:7 I go forward even if I don’t know what is ahead. This means my faith grows.

What damages my faith?

Lack of prayer, not listening to the Holy Spirit, and not being thankful damages my faith. If I keep my mustard seed of faith locked away, it won't grow. When I don't ask for help from God or settle for doing the bare minimum, my faith will be damaged.

Luke 17:5,6,7,8,9,10 This passage is about not being an offense and being forgiving. The disciples asked Jesus to increase their faith and this was His answer.

Have some faith – at least a seed's worth as a bare minimum – but don’t stop with that! Let it take root and grow.

Maybe I have faith in one area, but not another area in my life. Allow faith to spread to all areas and increase.
