Learning to Lean
1 Samuel 21:10,11,12,13,14,15 David had previously been in a different situation. He had support from his family and others.
1 Samuel 18:13,14,15,16,17,18 David was a model of faith, courage, and strength. He was close to the king. God was with him. He was popular with the people. He was supported. He had a wife who supported him. The king’s son was a close, faithful friend and placed him before. He had a prophet, Samuel, that supported him.
Learning to Lean I'm learning to lean on Jesus, Finding more power than I've ever dreamed, I'm learning to lean on Jesus.
Life throws curveballs and things happen that we don’t expect. The support system for David was taken away.
1 Samuel 18:8,9,10,11 David was doing what he thought he was right, but lost his position and became a fugitive. His wife discontinued support. Jonathan was no longer able to be a support because of the risk. Samuel wasn’t available. He was forced to act like a madman to survive.
Sometime a support system can take the place of God. If I become dependent on this, I don’t truly lean on God. A human support system is only temporary.
Psalms 34:1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13,14,15,16,17,18,19,20,21,22 This psalm introduction says: A Psalm of David, when he changed his behaviour before Abimelech; who drove him away, and he departed. David wrote this psalm when he was alone, but he could still give God praise for who He is. David began to encourage himself, “God will not fail. God will provide everything. The Lord will deliver out of all trouble.”
Don’t fear what the Lord is doing, even in the difficult times. I can lean on God.
