Lord, Help Me Walk in the Spirit!
1 Corinthians 2:9,10,11,12,13,14 There are things that are spiritually discerned; if I walk in the flesh I won’t know of them.
1 Corinthians 3:16,17,18,19,20,21,22 Does the Spirit of God dwell in me?
The temple is the mind and the body.
The natural or “fleshly” person cannot know the Spirit of God. There is much to be gained by knowing the mind of God. The natural mind is contrary to the will of God. Everyone needs a Savior.
Take time to have devotions with your children. They will encounter fleshly ideas and spirits as they begin to grow up and this will help them.
Galatians 5:15,16,17 Say it everyday, “Lord, help me to walk in the Spirit.” There is a promise: walk in the Spirit and you will not fulfill the lusts of the flesh.
The “flesh” is simply anything that is contrary to God. Each person needs more than growing up in church or baptism or study and prayer. Do I know of God or do I have deep desire to walk in the Spirit?
The body, itself, is not evil. The motive and spirit are what is important when speaking about “the flesh.”
1 Corinthians 3:16,17 The body and mind is designed to work together as the temple of God.
Romans 1:18,19,20,21,22,23,24,25 The body and mind can be taken into situations that are not healthy. Minds can be weak, damaged, or suffering. I must acknowledge that first so I can pay attention to my attitudes and opinions and learn to control and respect my mind.
Romans 12:1,2 Brain chemistry determines behavior. Repeated wrong choices can rewire the brain in a harmful way. God can rewire the brain that has been damaged, whether purposefully or accidentally. Even with a fervent prayer of faith, one must respect the fact that the brain has been affected. If I have the ability to change and I choose not to, it will eventually affect my spirit.
There is an acceptable use of what is natural. Abuse and misuse can lead to addiction.
I want to meet God at the front door of my temple; this is the entry I protect. The side and back doors of my temple become a target of the enemy. These are the parts of my life that I need to respect. The enemy wants to destroy my temple.
Psalms 101:2,3 This governs my thoughts.
Some common addictions include: detrimental internet use, social media, and entertainment. Addictions often impact financial choices.
Entertainment can appear clean at first, but when it is no longer clean, there is an addiction because there is reluctance to set it aside.
Confusion about gender can be introduced through innocent stories for children. Be aware of these side doors to the temple. God loves clean communication, respect for the opposite sex, marriage between a man and a woman, and intimacy after marriage.
