When we talk about aim, we are usually talking about where you're pointing, where you're focus is, what your ultimate goal is.
What are some reasons that a hunter may miss their target? Perhaps the target is too far away, they hesitated to act in time, they were distracted, had poor eye sight, or were aiming at the incorrect thing.
In Greek, the word "sin" means to miss the mark. As Christians we need to keep our vision of the target as clear as possible so we don't miss it.
Matthew 6:33
If we find ourselves pointing in the wrong direction, seeking God first will always sharpen your aim. Let's not forget that focusing on someone else's target is a guaranteed way to miss our own! Don't be distracted by anyone else- focus on your own target.
Proverbs 3:5-6
Putting our trust in God is often our only hope to hit the mark. Circumstances may make the landscape foggy and unclear and it's difficult to understand or see what our next move should be. Don't focus on the obstructed view- trust God to lead. Sometimes the best decision is to do nothing until God clears the way.
The spirit behind our aim will influence how effective our shot at the target truly is. What is motivating you to move in a particular direction? In scientific study, the data is not inherently good or evil, it's just the information that's available. But how that data is used and what is being studied may have moral and ethical implications. This is a great example of how our aim ultimately influences the outcome of our actions.
James 4:3 discusses Godly wisdom versus wordly wisdom. If we are going to God asking for direction, but our ultimate aim and goal is to get our own way, Godly wisdom will not answer that request. If your aim is off, you will not get a Godly outcome. Focusing on God does not make us immune to struggles- we need to pray for discernment to align our aim with God's way.
