Spiritual Sensitivity
How sensitive am I to the Spirit of God? How sensitive am I to the needs of others?
What does the word sensitive mean? It means quick to detect or respond to slight changes, signals, or influences. A lack of emotional sensitivity can actually affect our spiritual life, too.
Mark 5:24,25,26,27,28,29,30,31 Jesus knew immediately that power (virtue) had gone out of Him. No one had to tell Him repeatedly. He was in tune with His spiritual inventory. Do I realize when power has left me? Do I know if a spiritual trait has left me? Am I concerned when I know of it? Does someone else have to tell me?
The opposite of sensitive is apathy, which is lack of feeling, emotion, interest, or concern. It is a state of indifference. If I am experiencing spiritual apathy, does it matter to me? Am I aware?
Ezekiel 36:26 A new heart brings a sensitivity to the Spirit of God. I no longer need a stony heart that is unmoved and unresponsive. It can’t be molded or adjusted. Jesus warned the disciples not to harden their heart.
What causes my heart to grow hard? Life experiences, disappointments, bad influences, pride, or overriding God’s voice. This causes me to lose spiritual sensitivity.
Exodus 8:15,19,32 God will give many opportunities, but when I continue to tell God “No,” my heart becomes hardened. In this passage it says Pharaoh hardened his own heart.
Exodus 10:1,20,27
Matthew 13:15
Ephesians 4:32 Am I sensitive to the hurt of others and what their needs are? Am I sensitive to the expressed needs (at times repeated) and concerns of the saints?
Jesus was moved with compassion. Compassion will cause me to act.
In the story of the Good Samaritan, the others that passed by may have had empathy but they didn’t show compassion. When is the last time I showed compassion to someone?
