Hebrews 12:14 Look for common ground; don’t create division. Holiness means set apart. Pursue peace. Does the light of God radiate through me?
Is the Old Man Dead and the New Man Alive?
When I have a broken appliance and purchase a new one, I don't want to keep any part of the old one. When I become a new person, it just makes sense that I would not want any pieces of the old person or the old way.
Galatians 5:17 There is conflict.
My affections are the things I think about, are focused on, and motivated by. Does my life point to the heavenly? Mortify means something will die or be destroyed.
A life of impurity, driven by sensual motives and affections and discontent, is not of God. These things need to be personally eradicated. This list includes “social sins,” such as anger and desire for vengeance and injury and speech which slanders another or expresses vulgarity. Setting aside (put off) means it’s removed and no longer part of my life as either a benefit or a hurt. God is loving, but he is also wrathful against these choices.
What controls my life? What is influencing my actions and thoughts and focus?
Romans 6:7,8,9,10,11 Paul says, “You used to walk this way.”
Is my old man dead or an am I picking up part of it again?
There is a list of things to put off and of things to put on. For instance, there isn’t room for grudges when I put on mercy. I actively put off weights that will stop me from going the new way.
Being a new creature enables forgiveness and mercy. The fragrance of God is charity. The peace of God will rule. Thankfulness is part of the new man.
Everything I do will show a new direction. Each action will weigh against what would Jesus do? Will it bring honor to Jesus?
Is the old man still strapped to your back? There is a remedy for that. Jesus will give a new life. What controls my life?
