After spending the past 7 weeks learning the 5 love languages, Bro. Ferron from Florida followed it up with a wonderful message on Mastering Communication between a Husband and a Wife.
Communication is a powerful median of expressing ones feelings, emotions, thoughts and desires. The bible teaches us that we need to have our tongues on the alter and that by our words we shall be justified and by our words we shall be condemned.
Salvations helps us in our marriage by 1. Giving the speaker wisdom and 2. giving the hearer grace. Isaiah 50:4 teaches us that "The Lord GOD has given Me The tongue of the learned, That I should know how to speak a word in season to him who is weary. He awakens me morning by morning, He awakens My ear to hear as the learned."
As time carries on, sometimes we realize that as a married couple, we may be in two different seasons in our life and we need to respect each other enough to realize that both couples do not always feel the same and see things the same way at the same time.
Communication is more than words. Communication is often doing as well as saying, if we appreciate our marriage, we will recognize we need to understand our marriage and realize that the husband and wife are on the same team.
Philemon 1:6 teaches us that "the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus." When we speak to our wife or husband, we need to put down the flesh and realize that we are speaking to the "Christ" that is in our spouse and be careful about how we speak to them.
These Pillars will help us to communicate effectually with our spouse:
1. Mutual respect
2. Avoiding Miscommunication
3. Discussing Finances
The proverbs writer teaches us in Proverbs 18:20-21 that "A man's belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled.Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.
If we live a holy and humble life and remember to speak to the Christ that is our spouse, God will help us to have a richer marriage with deeper communciation and therefore a greater understanding of each other.
