We all, at one time or another, face the battle of overcoming discouragement. In both our spiritual and physical walk here on earth, there will come situations and circumstances where the odds seem overwhelming and the mountain seems insurmountable. God makes handiwork of the improbable and specializes in the impossible. When discouragment besets on us every side, we need to look to rock that is higher than us as God knows how to deliver His people.
Suprisingly, many times, our own expectations lay the groundwork for future discouragment and this happens in many aspects of our life. When we begin the different pages of our life, we often have preconceived notions about how things will turn out and this often leads to discouragement. Whether it be marriage, dating, a new job, or even a vacation, many times our expectations are what lead us to thinking that things should be better than they are and discouragement begins to work.
However, its not always our own preconceived ideas that get us down in the mully grubs. Life and the enemy of souls know how to bring about circumstances and trials that seem to crush our dreams and dash our hopes. Which makes it so important that we remember and TRUST that God knows how to make a way when there is no way.
The Bible, shows us clearly that some of the people that God loved and used most faced trying and often dire situations. There was Joshua, (Joshua 7: 1-7) who after watching Israel lose the battle to Ai became greatly distressed and discouraged. There was David (Psalms 42:3 (any many other Psalms) who simultaneously expressed his enormous burden and grief while giving us the blessing of his trust in a God who had never failed him. There was Paul, Job, Jeremiah and Isaiah, all men grealty beloved of God who found themselves in terrible circumstances and great tribulation.
Nevertheless, in spite of all the accounts of grave situations faced in the Bible, there is a common theme to it all. God, is the one ultimately in control and despite what those in the bible faced, they were able to work past their discouragement and gain the victory because they trusted in God. God is just the same today! We may be cast down, but we are not destroyed; we may be persecuted, but we are not forsaken. If we trust in God, God will make a way for us and there is NOTHING that can seperate us from His love.
