Class notes 9/23 & 9/30

These two weeks have been lessons concerning Parental Responsibility and the duty of every parent to raise their children in the fear and admonition of the Lord. In order to have the desired affect that we must on our children, it is important that we first live a Godly example before them (Deuteronomy 4:9). Secondly, we must teach our children about God and things of God. Thirdly, we should give our children our own lively testimony of what God did for us when he saved us and delivered us from sin (Deuteronomy 6:5-15;20-12 and Deuteronomy 31:13)

It is a parent’s job and no one else’s to raise up a child in the way he ought to go (Proverbs 22:6). When a parent abdicates their responsibility to raise their children the bible way, they risk not giving that child the foundation they need to be successful in this life and deprive that child from a proper spiritual, moral, ethical and emotional compass. It is the parent’s duty to lay up for the child those perfect truths that God has given us and to provide the nurture and admonition they need to properly respect the things of God (Ephesians 6:4)

It is important that we set the example in our homes before our children. A “do as I say, and not as I do” approach to the things of God will not be effective on a children. In order to be successful, one must be consistent, persistent, and fair in both their discipline of their children and the teaching of the children. It is important to realize that our children will be like us when they grow up. We need to love or children so much that we are willing to teach and correct them instead of leaving them to their own devices (like the television).

We should look to the good examples in the bible of those parents who taught their children to love, respect and obey God (David, Abraham, Job, and Noah). While we should avoid patterning ourselves after those parents who raised their children poorly in that God was not given the proper respect (Eli).
