Discouragement – the fact, state or feeling of being discouraged
Discourage – to deprive of courage, make less confident or hopeful, dishearten; to advise or persuade (a person) to refrain; to prevent or try to prevent by disapproving or raising objections or obstacles.
We all go through discouragement from time to time. We can easily be over taken by the spirit of discouragement; it can seem overwhelming and that there is no way out. However, we serve a God that is mightier than discouragement.
When we are going through discouraging times, there are some things that we can do to help lift the weight.
1. Above all we can lean on God, believing that he will give us the strength to make it through. Prayer and trust in God can help us to rise above. 2. Examine to see if there is something humanly that we can do. If it is a physical trial, have we sought medical help, are we aware of what we are eating or doing that could be causing the discomfort. 3. Even though it is difficult sometimes, it is helpful to be proactive in seeking help or in getting out of the depressing times. 4. Meditate on the things that God has already done or trials that he has helped you gain the victory. Count the blessings that God has provided.
In all things we can rely up on God’s promise that he will never leave or forsake us in Isaiah 41:9-10, “Thou whom I have taken from the ends of the earth, and called thee from the chief men thereof, and said unto thee, Thou art my servant; I have chosen thee, and not cast thee away. Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.” God chose us and he will never leave us, even when it feels that we are all alone. God is always there and in his time, he will give us the victory over the spirit of discouragement.
