"Repent, for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand." Matthew 4:17
God seeks us even when we try to hide from Him. It's God's nature to seek us even when we don't want to be found. Have you ever felt like you were hiding from God? This week our lesson was taken from the Bible story of Jonah and the Whale.
Jonah did not want to go to the wicked city of Ninevah and tell them they were going to be destroyed if they didn't repent, as God had commanded him. So he got on a ship and hid in the bottom of it. But God saw Jonah and God caused a huge storm to come and toss the ship until the sea men were fearful for their lives. God showed the seamen that Jonah was why they were in trouble and so Jonah had the men throw him overboard and the storm abated. God had a huge fish swallow Jonah and there Jonah stayed for three days and three nights until he repented for running away from God and not performing his commandment to him. God caused the fish to spit him onto shore and Jonah went right away to the city of Ninevah and brought God's message to the people. As a result the people of Ninevah repented. Jonah learned that you can't hide from God and that men, women and children are all precious in the sight of the LORD, even if they do not know God.
