Babylon means confusion or changing of the language. The city of Babylon was totally wicked. In order to get into the city, you had to pass by one of the gates of a false god. Babylon has the same spirit in the New Testament as it had in the Old Testament.
The people in Babylon liked something besides the true God. Would you have been uncomfortable in that city, knowing that no one lived to serve the true God there? God gives grace wherever we live. God gave grace to the three Hebrews that determined to serve him while captive in that city."And there came one of the seven angels which had the seven vials, and talked with me, saying unto me, Come hither; I will shew unto thee the judgment of the great whore that sitteth upon many waters: With whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication. So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns. And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication: And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH." Revelations 17:1-5 The woman, called Mystery Babylon, is a spiritual representation of all the false religions in the world. She is covered with pearls and jewels to make herself attractive. The jewels she takes on are the things that God represents, but she is just trying to allure people. She pulls different things out of the bible to make herself believable, but what she is offering is the cup of her deceit. She offers it to anybody who will listen to her. She has preachers that will lie to you. They will mix in lies to deceive. If you twist a few words of the bible, it will not even resemble what God wants you to hear. "And in that day seven women shall take hold of one man, saying, We will eat our own bread, and wear our own apparel: only let us be called by thy name, to take away our reproach." Isaiah 4:1 There were seven women who wanted to take hold of one man. Yet They wanted to do what their own will. As the Church of God is represented as a pure woman in the scriptures, so false religion is represented of other impure women. False religion is like those seven women. They want and use the title of Christ in their church name to take away their reproach, but they do not want to keep his commandments. To take the name of the bridegroom, we must live a sin free life. (Ephesians 5: 25-27) We don’t try to hold on to anything from our past life of sin. Once that happens, we lose our part in the church. Spiritual defilement is adding to or taking away from the truth. Babylon wants to sell herself and defile anyone. Babylon is fighting the truth and the Lamb of God. God has more power than all falseness as we rely on him and count him as our strength. If we don’t rely on God, the enemy can put chinks in our armor. The greatest battle is for souls. The woman is able to entrap and snare if she is more believable. Don't even sip from her cup. Bring your Bible with you to church. Study and pray and ask God to please open your eyes to the truth so you wont be deceived by this great whore and receive of her plagues.
