"For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens." 2 Corinthians 5:1 No matter what we have to face in this world, we have a soul that will spend eternity with God. When we stay faithful, we will be rewarded. Any religion that doesn’t live the whole gospel the Bible terms as spiritual Babylon. Babylon is likened to a whore. She is unfaithful to God and his word. She represents confusion. Today she is a large part of our spiritual warfare. (Revelation 18)
In Noah’s time, because the wickedness of man was so great, God flooded the earth. Sometime afterwards, some of the people thought that they would stay together and defy God by building the Tower of Babel. God let the people build for awhile. But their purpose and motivation was wrong. Sometimes a lot of people will be united for a bad cause. Before we band with anybody about anything we need to look at what the purpose is. God gives everyone an opportunity to change their mind. The Tower of Babel was destroyed. A lot of the people stayed in the valley and started the city of Babylon. The city of Babylon was known for its wickedness. Each gate into the city of Babylon had a name of a false God. They built many big places that were very ornate in order to place their gods there. One of them was called Ishtar who was a God of lust. God is not pleased with that type of lifestyle. Another was Marduc who was involved in black magic. They often performed their magic to earn money. Shamash was a God who conquered night and day. He served as judge of the underworld. The underworld was where people went when they died.
"And go not after other gods to serve them, and to worship them, and provoke me not to anger with the works of your hands; and I will do you no hurt." Jeremiah 25:6 Throughout the bible it says do not worship other Gods. The worship of other gods is a grievous thing to God. Anything we set before God can become a pagan thing. We need to make sure God is number one in our lives. Nebuchadnezzar was the king of Babylon. He reigned from approximately 606 b.c. until 561 b.c. He destroyed Jerusalem and took the captives back to Babylon. Imagine the humble Israelites going through the wicked gates of Babylon. Shadrack, Meshack, Abednego, and Daniel stayed true even in this city. Every time Daniel stood for God, he got promoted in the city of Babylon. He is like Job who maintained his integrity even with all that went on around him. There is a spiritual warfare going on today with spiritual Babylon. People try and give their religions respectable names and ornate the temples and places of worship. But if God is not in it, then it is working against him. It is Babylon- confusion and it is a part of our spiritual warfare. The only way to be free is to have our spiritual eyes open. The truth is the only thing that will set our soul free. Don’t be deceived because God is tarrying. Don’t be deceived to think sinners are doing well. God didn’t take any action in the Tower of Babel or the city of Babylon, at first. But eventually he completely destroyed it. For further reading see: The Great War, Part 1
