"I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world. The Jews therefore strove among themselves, saying, How can this man give us his flesh to eat? Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you." John 6:51-53 Christ said we must eat of his flesh and drink of his blood. It was not a literal, physical eating. It was a spiritual representation of partaking of his sacrificial life. It was not from just the perspective of what we need. We are supposed to have a sacrificial living. That is true worship.
In the Old Testament, false worship came into place. (Exodus 32:1-6) "The people sat down to eat and drink and rose up to play." Pagan worship is about worshiping God from a selfish perspective. The Devil always tries to replicate God’s worship. The form of the worship that Jesus wants us to partake of is his sacrificial worship. Communion means, everyone partaking in the same way. A love feast is more than that. It comes from a sacrifice that we give for one another and for him. He wants everyone to come together for his purpose, for the sacrifice of the purpose of God. It means partaking of the suffering also. He wants us to do it together. In Acts 15, the need was to separate the Gentiles from pagan worship and practices. The body of Christ is married to only him. He doesn’t want it being seen as mixed with anything else. It needs to be presented in spirit and practice. Our worship needs to be from a pure perspective of true communion and not selfishly as, what is in it for me. It is so important to be sanctified. Otherwise, we will not serve God with our whole heart. We must partake of his sacrificial love. "The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ? For we being many are one bread, and one body: for we are all partakers of that one bread. Behold Israel after the flesh: are not they which eat of the sacrifices partakers of the altar? What say I then? that the idol is any thing, or that which is offered in sacrifice to idols is any thing? But I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils, and not to God: and I would not that ye should have fellowship with devils. Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord's table, and of the table of devils." 1 Corinthians 10:16-21 You can’t just go down to any church, where they don’t worship in Spirit and truth, and worship with God’s people. This is why we have a “come out” message at the Church of God. People need to come out of being mixed up in a selfish focused religion of, "what's in it for me." You can’t partake of that and worship God. That is not discerning the Lord’s body. The message is come out and be separate. We must separate from pagan worship. What was the altar for? It was the altar of sacrifice. It is not just about what is for you to digest and eat. You are part of the sacrifice. It doesn’t have anything to do with the selfish worship. It is a pagan way of thinking to eat and drink and then rise up to play. "And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues." Revelations 18:4
