"Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? It is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under the foot of men." Matt 5:13-16

How do you see your individual influence as being the salt of the earth? Jesus was speaking to his disciples. We, as individuals, are the salt of the earth. How is our influence salt to the earth? Have you ever had something with a lot of salt in it? Salt is pretty hard to hide. If there is no salt in something, it is also very easy to tell.

Salt is used as a preservative. It is up to you and I to preserve this way of life. We don’t wSalt shakerant our salt to not be doing its part. We must carry on, or maintain, the truth we have been taught.

Salt makes us thirsty. How many of you have had someone you looked up to in life? Now that you are an adult, who is now looking up to you? As that one looks up to you, are you a salt to them towards the things of God? When we eat something that is salty we usually want a drink of water. Our lives should make others thirsty for the things of God.

Salt is and active ingredient. God intended us to be instruments for his use. God wants us to be actively used by him. If your role is a prayer warrior, you must be a prayer warrior.

We need more influence in public than we have today. An article from the Sacramento Bee dated December 16, 1976 stated the following:

“Faith Reveals a Winter White World at Rest. The following merchants wish you to go to church.”

You would not see that written in the Sacramento Bee today. That was only 30 years ago. What an erosion, even in our lifetime. The world is not shy about advertising their filth. Go to Safeway or Raley’s and try to go through the check stand and try to avoid the world’s filth. They have tabloids that are displaying filth. Why do we need to have this thrown in our face?

If we want to be salty, savoury, we cannot hide the light or the truth that God has given us. We must not be ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. What use are you in the Kingdom of God? If you are salty, you should be able to answer that question. If you cannot answer that question, maybe you should pray and make sure you have not lost your savour.
