Many times the Lord has spoken to my heart in clear and simple words- words so close to the way I speak, that I have pondered this over in my heart. Then one day God made it clear to me that He speaks our language.
Language is often a huge barrier between people. Even when two individuals speak the same words, or language such as English, Spanish, or Russian, barriers of understanding the ‘heart’ still exist. Communication is a big issue within all types of relationships.
But with God it is not so. God knows how to speak our language, as a nation as well as individually. He knows the very personal language of our heart, and he knows our frame of reference. He knows how we think, and he knows how to get a message to us that is clear.
It is very important that we, as Christians, when we hear a message from God that we speak that message in other peoples language. We want them to understand with clarity the truth of the gospel.
“What I tell you in darkness, that speak ye in light. And what ye hear in the ear, that preach ye upon the housetops.” Matthew 10:27
God is speaking to true and honest Christians in the midst of a very dark world, and Jesus asks us to take what he tells us and bring it to light. He wants the light of his words to dispel the darkness. He wants people to understand his message- he wants us to take it to everyone- “upon housetops”- not hidden within our houses but rather open to the whole world.
We can be given spiritual understanding, and have faith and zeal for what God has spoken to us, but we need the true gift of tongues- the ability to transfer the message of God into language that others may understand.
“For if the trumpet give an uncertain sound, who shall prepare himself for the battle. So likewise, except ye utter by the tongue words easy to be understood, how shall it be known what is spoken? For ye speak into the air.” 1 Corinthians 14: 8-9
We do not want to confuse people. This is exactly what a false message, including a false gift of tongues that people do for show, who are just religious and do not have a real soul burden will do; It will confuse the hearer. But God desires to give His true and faithful children the true gift of tongues- the ability to speak in other peoples language the message of salvation, clearly: “And thus (by others clearly understanding the message of God) are the secrets of the his heart made manifest; and so falling down on his face he will worship God, and report that God is in you of a truth.” 1 Corinthians 14:25
All through the scriptures are so many examples of God enabling men to speak the language of others. In the book of Acts, many examples are there that demonstrate the wisdom and grace of the Holy Ghost giving the people of God the ability to speak with people of all walks of life. Read through this book and see for yourself the richness of this gift given; to speak to and eunuch from Ethiopia (Acts 8:27-40) Libertines, Cyrenians and Alexandrians (Acts 6 ) Idol worshippers in Athens (acts 17) governors and religious leaders (Acts 24) kings (Acts 26) Gentiles (Acts 10) and so many more. The message was made clear no matter what the nationality, social standing or level of education.
God knows our language. He speaks directly to our heart in our very own language that is peculiar to anyone else, and by his grace, by praying for the gift of “true tongues” he will enable us to speak His message, clearly, to those that he sends us to!
