Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: Ephesians 4:13
In Washington, DC there is a building called the National Institute of Standards and Technology. This organization sets the national standard for inches, feet, weight and other measures. All measurement of pounds, feet, liters and all of those things have a set standard. If there was no set standard how could someone follow a set of blueprints to construct a building or follow a recipe to bake a cake. If everyone had their own measurement for foot or cup, you wouldn’t get consistent results. The Bible is a Christian’s set standard.
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 2 Tim 3:16
When it says; all scripture is given by inspiration God, what does that mean? It means that God is the author of all scripture. In the Greek Bible, instead of saying; inspiration of God, it says; God breathed. When God breathed into man; He gave him life. If there was none of God’s breath in the scriptures, they wouldn’t mean anything. The Word was inspired of God. When he breathed into the authors of the scriptures it means he told them what to say. The men didn’t just put some words down. God gave them different abilities. Peter was a fisherman. He wasn’t educated like Paul. There is a difference in their writing. Luke was a physician and he was educated differently than Mark was. When you read the gospel, you will read the personalities of the people that wrote, but every word was inspired of God. God was the one that was the author of it. God authored the Christian’s set standard.
For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise. But we will not boast of things without our measure, but according to the measure of the rule which God hath distributed to us, a measure to reach even unto you. 2 Corinthians 10:12-13
We are to measure ourselves by the Bible, and by what it says, not by those around us. God desires that we measure to His standards, so that He can fit us into His church. If we measure ourselves, by our own ideas or worldly thoughts – we won’t fit into God’s plan.
But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ: From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love. Ephesians 4:15-16
