Tuesday, August 4, 2009, Bible Study Time, Sister Edith Tolbert 1. A Chosen Generation Before the foundation of the world God wanted a people that would love him with all their heart and be holy.
Ephesians 1:4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:
John 5:16 Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you,…
God is not willing that anyone should perish but that all should come to repentance. Gods sends the Holy Spirit to speak to everyone and convict them of their sins. He wants them to repent, forsake their ways, and thoughts, and serve God with all their heart. Then they are chosen of God. 2, A Royal Priesthood Revelation 1:6 And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.
The Priests Duties: 1. To make sacrificial offerings to God and do the service of God 2. Watch over the fire on the alter that I does not burn out 3. Keep burning day and night the lamps on the golden candle stick with pure olive oil 4. Offer morning and evening sacrifices, keeping the incense burning on the golden altar. We as spiritual priest need to present our bodies as a living sacrifice to God. Incense is a type of prayer, continually ascending to God We need a personal prayer life, and keep the fire burning in our heart and not let it burn out or grow cold.
3. A Holy Nation
Exodus 19:5-6 Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine: And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.
At Moses’ time God wanted a holy people. It hasn’t changed today. God still wants a holy people. 1Peter 1:15-16 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.
4. A Peculiar People In Exodus 19:5, God said if we were obedient then we would be a peculiar treasure unto him Peculiar – Private property of only one person, exclusive, separate, distinct from all others, belonging distinctively to one person; unusual, odd Deuteronomy 14:2 For thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God, and the LORD hath chosen thee to be a peculiar people unto himself, above all the nations that are upon the earth.
We are God’s peculiar people if we love and obey him and walk in all his ways. We are to belong only to God and not another for we are bought with a price. We are separate from the world. We belong distinctively to only one person and that is God. Thank God we can be God’s chosen generation, his royal priesthood, holy and his peculiar people in this world today.
