In April of 1977, the Church of God opened up it's first neighborhood Bible Story Time over on California Avenue. A year later this meeting was moved to the home of Joann Gutierrez where it continues to this day to bless the neighborhood children with the wholesome gospel of Jesus Christ.Sandy and Joann With over 30 years of service, literally thousands of children have heard the wonderful message of salvation and deliverance from sin that might have otherwise never heard.

Having raised four children of her own, Sandy Coleman was concerned that with all the societal changes, including taking God out of schools, that children would grow up not knowing who the Savior Jesus Christ was. She spoke of her burden to her Pastor at that time, Sam McConehea, and he encouraged her to begin an after school neighborhood Bible Story Time. She willingly and eagerly took up the task. Many other Brothers and Sisters from the Church of God in Carmichael, took up the burden along with her and at one time their were five homes in the surrounding area hostessing neighborhood Bible Story Times. At times, these meetings would have in attendance better than 100 children. Throughout the years, Sandy Coleman and her daughter Joann Gutierrez (pictured above) have been a devoted mother-daughter team and the Gutierrez's home remains a constant light house in the Carmichael area.

Dedicated, loving, faithful and sacrificial service is almost unheard of in our days. Yet this is exactly what you will find at the Carmichael Neighborhood Bible Story Time.

We cordially invite you and your children to come and be blessed by this special home and it's teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Held faithfully every Thursday afternoon from 4:00 - 5:00,  all ages are welcome!

"Bible Story Time has been a wonderful opportunity to share what God has done for me. I began teaching when I was about 21 years old. It has been over 27 years!

I have always enjoyed the way children love to learn about God and His plan for our lives. They are so attentive during the lesson, even if they normally have trouble sitting still. It is as if they comprehend how amazing God is, and how much He loves us.

I gave my heart to the Lord when I was 20 years old. My husband and I were married a few years later. We have truly enjoyed working with the children in B.S.T. and learning from them as we raised our own four boys. Walking with God and teaching His word has been a priviledge I will always treasure."

This Week's Memory Verse

The life of Peter and His Ministry

This week at BST we are continuing to learn about Peter's life and ministry. We saw how he learned to be completely consecrated to God after failing on the night Jesus was crucified. We read that Jesus instructed His followers to tarry in Jerusalem until they received the Holy Spirit. As Peter consecrated his life and received God's Spirit, God gave him power and courage to preach the message of deliverance to others. As you remember before Jesus died on the cross, Peter was afraid to let others know about his desire to serve Jesus and be recognized as one of His followers. After he was filled with the Spirit of God on the day of Pentecost, Peter was able to boldly preach and teach about Jesus. Peter was able to let the true light of God shine through him and be a witness for God's glory and purpose.

Our verse is found in Matthew 5:16, "Let your light so shine before men..."
