  One way to Heaven

To start each child was given a strip of colored construction paper to write on it a good deed that they have done. (later to be used to link together to make a paper chain). 

We then explained that many people believe that if they are very good, they can build a bridge to get back to God by doing good deeds. We then made a paper chain from chair to chair with all the good deeds that the children had written on their white strips of paper. I ask for a volunteer to walk across this new bridge. This "good deeds" bridge broke with the very first step on it. I Explained that good deeds will not get us back to God.


Then I presented a long, solid board with a shorter board screwed with one screw so that it could turn behind the first one. I asked the children if this board could get them from one chair, representing us, to the other chair representing God. When they said yes I twisted the bottom, shorter board to form a cross and told them that Jesus is the only bridge back to God. Jesus died on the cross to bring us back to God. I asked as many children that wanted to walk across the cross that was now a bridge laying from chair to chair and prove that Jesus could get us to God. Almost all the children were excited and walked across the bridge.

 
After we walk across this bridge back to God I told them to never go back. That the only thing that will separate us from God or take the bridge down is the same thing that separated us in the first place. That is SIN!

                   Only one can forgive sins. Who can forgive our sins?
