What has helped me stay saved and continue to walk with God, is to stay rooted in his foundation.
Simply put, a foundation is the ground; substructure; or basis upon which something is built. I knew I had to have this foundation to truly stay saved and deal with the struggles of life. At times, our life may seem stripped away, but God- our foundation- is always there through his word, his presence, and his promise. And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say? Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like: He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock. But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great. Luke 6:46-49
In Luke 6:46-49 Jesus gives us an example of how to build on a firm foundation. All those who hear and obey God's word are like a man who builds a house on a strong foundation which is laid upon the underlying rock. When the flood waters rise and break upon the house, it stands firm. But those who hear God's word, but choose not to obey it, are building their house without a foundation- so when the flood waters rise and hit the house, it crumbles into ruins. Today, people claim to follow God and do what he says, but when circumstances arise in their life, they bend and fall. I did not want to bend and fall. I wanted to serve God no matter what happens in my life. It is very important to spend time mediating everyday on God's word. This builds our foundation that lasts when trials come and helps us to walk a true Christian life.
